7-Down and 43-Down . . .
A Baude NYT crossword puzzle
This big news is one day too late to make it into yesterday’s reading list, so if you’ll pardon a non-law-related post: My brother Jonathan Baude has his own byline in the New York Times this morning — in the crossword puzzle section. Because it’s my brother, it has a particularly tricky but excellent and satisfying theme.
You can find the New York Times crossword puzzle column about today’s puzzle here (does the usual maxim about reading the comments apply to crosswords?); the Rex Parker review here; the r/crosswords discussion here. I am going to resist the urge to explain why any of the quibbles at these links are wrong and just tell you to find the crossword puzzle.
And Interlochen Public Radio has the backstory: After 20 years of trying, Traverse City man’s crossword appears in today’s New York Times.

It was hard for a Monday, I thought. The Baude brothers have always been cooler than I and the clues were over my head. But the fact that I could hear them in Jonathan’s voice was a treat! Love the brotherly shout out and the cross pollination (if that’s what it is? Do I just mean cross reference?) in my morning reads.)
I saw that the puzzle was constructed by a Baude and wondered. It was a fine one indeed, with a really clever theme -- challenging for a Tuesday, but that's a good thing.
